NDIS Podiatry
Advance Foot Clinic Podiatry is a registered NDIS provider, which means we are fully accredited to provide podiatry services to NDIS participants across our Brisbane clinics.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a federal government program that funds support and services for Australians living with a permanent and significant disability. If foot health is relevant to your disability or your ability to live independently, NDIS funding may cover the podiatry care you need.
Our dedicated team of experienced podiatrists is here to help you understand your options and get the most from your NDIS plan.
What is NDIS podiatry?
NDIS podiatry refers to foot care services that are funded through a participant’s NDIS plan. Because the NDIS is designed to fund supports that are directly linked to a person’s disability, podiatry treatment must have a clear connection to your condition and your goals.
Podiatry can be included in your NDIS plan when it helps you to:
- Improve or maintain mobility and independence
- Manage foot and lower limb conditions caused or worsened by your disability
- Develop new skills in self-care
- Reduce the risk of further injuries
- Enhance your quality of life and daily functioning
Who can access NDIS podiatry services?
To access podiatry through the NDIS, you need to be an NDIS participant with an approved plan that includes funding for podiatry. Eligibility for the NDIS requires that a person has a permanent and significant disability that substantially reduces their ability to participate in everyday activities
Podiatry treatment may be appropriate under your NDIS plan for conditions such as:
- Disorders that cause difficulty walking, such as cerebral palsy or acquired brain injury
- Mobility limitations that make safe foot and nail care difficult
- Toe-walking associated with sensory processing difficulties
- Intellectual disability that affects a person's ability to perform general foot care
- Foot pain or ankle instability that affects independence in daily activities
What podiatry services are covered under NDIS?
As a registered NDIS provider, we offer a broad range of foot care services that may be funded through your NDIS plan, depending on your individual goals and funding. These include:
- General foot care, including nail cutting and hard skin removal
- Custom orthotics or braces to support mobility
- Assistance with sourcing appropriate orthopaedic or custom footwear
- Treatment of ingrown toenails and other nail conditions
- Management of foot, ankle, knee, and leg pain
Every treatment plan is tailored to your unique needs and goals. For a full overview of the treatments we offer, visit our treatments page.
Understanding your NDIS plan
Your NDIS plan sets out your goals and how your funding is allocated. There are three ways your NDIS plan can be managed, and we work with all of them:
- Agency managed (also called NDIA managed): The National Disability Insurance Agency manages your funds directly.
- Plan managed: A registered plan manager handles your funding and pays providers on your behalf.
- Self managed: You manage your own funds and pay providers directly.
How to get started: step-by-step
Step 1
Confirm podiatry is in your NDIS plan
Check that your current NDIS plan includes funding for podiatry services. If it does not, you can request a plan review at any time, it does not need to wait until your scheduled review date. Contact your plan manager or support coordinator to get this started.
If you are self-managed, you can skip directly to booking your appointment.
Step 2
Gather your NDIS information
- Your NDIS participant number
- Your plan management type (agency, plan managed, or self managed)
- Your NDIS plan start and end dates
- The scope of funding available for podiatry within your plan
- Your date of birth and current residential address
- Next of kin name and contact number
For plan managed participants, you will also need:
- Your plan manager's name, organisation, phone number, and email
- The billing email address (this may differ from your plan manager's contact)
For agency managed participants, you will also need:
- Your support coordinator's name, organisation, phone, and email
For self managed participants:
- We will provide a detailed invoice after your appointment for you to submit for reimbursement.
Step 3
Book your first appointment
You can book an appointment online or call your preferred clinic location directly. When booking, please let us know that your appointment will be under the NDIS so we can allow extra time for the initial paperwork.
You are welcome to bring a support person or support worker to your appointment.
Step 4
Attend your first appointment
At your first appointment, your podiatrist will review your NDIS information, take a full history, and complete an assessment of your foot health needs. Together, you will agree on a treatment plan and sign your service agreement, which outlines the services to be provided and the expected costs covered by your NDIS funding.
If you have completed a new patient form online prior to your visit, please ensure your medical history and current medications are included.
Step 5
Ongoing appointments and plan reviews
Your podiatrist will work with you through your treatment plan across follow-up appointments. You are always welcome to request changes to your service agreement. Generally, your agreement is reviewed annually or when your NDIS plan is reviewed.
