Clinical Podiatry
Our podiatrists are expertly trained and provide a wide range of podiatry services to the locals of Brisbane and Mount Isa. One major way our podiatrists help their patients is with clinical podiatry. This refers to a range of treatments, but is most often focused on the skin, nails and overall health of your feet.
What is clinical podiatry?
Podiatrists are able to provide a range of treatments, advice and medical devices (for example, custom orthotics). One focus of our podiatry services is clinical podiatry. In a these appointments our podiatrists address concerns with the skin of your feet, such as thick hard skin and nail problems like ingrown toenails will also be treated.
Generally, clinical podiatry addresses the following concerns:
- Callus (hard skin)
- Cracked heels
- Corns
- Thick toenails
- Ingrown nails
- Involuted (curled) nails
- Fungal nails
- Tinea pedis (fungal skin infection)
- Foot ulcers and wounds
- Blisters
- Plantar warts
- Colour changes to skin and nails
- Itchy feet or skin rashes on feet
- Ankle swelling
- Varicose veins
- Diabetic feet
- Seniors foot care
What happens in a clinical podiatry appointment?
In a clinical podiatry appointment our podiatrists provide a hands-on treatment to your feet. You simply sit in our comfortable treatment chair while your podiatrist provides assessment and treatment using specialised sterile instruments. This treatment might include things such as trimming your toenails, reducing thick nails, debriding hard skin, treating a wart or measuring the blood flow in your feet. All of this is done in a safe way with a medical focus as podiatrists are registered health providers.
These clinical appointments are different to a biomechanical appointment where you might come in with a problem like heel pain or flat feet. These complaints are biomechanical problems where the focus is less on hands-on treatment and more so on correct diagnosis, assessment and management. In these appointments your podiatrist might conduct a gait assessment and prescribe custom orthotics or an exercise program, for example.
How do we provide clinical podiatry services?
Our clinical podiatry treatments are offered at one of our five clinics around Brisbane and Mount Isa. Our clinics are fully equipped with modern and evidence-based treatment options, such as ‘Swift‘ treatment for plantar warts. We also offer a mobile podiatry service for those patients who are unable to make it to one of our clinics due to either temporary disability or ongoing mobility challenges.
Some patients will see us once or twice for an acute problem (such as a mild ingrown toenail), whereas many other patients see us for routine care on an ongoing basis. Even something as simple as being unable to safely cut your own toenails warrants seeking regular clinical podiatry treatment. Long-term regular clinical podiatry appointments will help keep your feet safe, comfortable and in their very best condition.
How much does a clinic podiatry appointment cost?
Clinical podiatry is normally provided as a standard length appointment. We offer a range of funding options such as Hicaps private health claims, Medicare referrals, NDIS, DVA referrals and concession rates.
